Bursts, edits, chat exports, resized versions. DupSweep's photo mode is smart enough to find them all, rigorous enough to verify every match before removal.
Free trial — 15 deletions. 5€ for a lifetime license.
Photography, whole folders, and generic files each need a different check.
SHA-256 byte verification
Exact duplicates only. Two files match if their contents are identical bit-for-bit. Perfect for documents, installers, archives.
Whole-folder clustering
Finds duplicated folder structures, not just files, and merges them safely with a full preview first.
Perceptual hashing
Finds similar photos even when they're not identical: bursts, exports, resizes, chat copies. Catches what byte-matching misses.
Why photographers need DupSweep's photo mode.
Found 10 frames of the same pose. Keep the sharpest one, remove the rest without hunting by filename.
Original RAW, edited PSD, exported JPEG. Same photo, different formats. SHA-256 won't catch these—perceptual hashing does.
WhatsApp, Messenger, and AirDrop recompress photos. DupSweep still groups them with the original when they look alike.
Keep the originals you care about. Remove duplicates, bursts, and variants in one scan. Free up gigabytes in minutes.
How DupSweep works, what the trial includes, and how licenses work.
For files, it first groups likely matches by name and size, then confirms with SHA-256 hashing. Two files only count as duplicates if their contents match byte-for-byte.
Deletions go to the system Trash on macOS or the Recycle Bin on Windows — not a permanent wipe. You can restore from there, and DupSweep also has in-app Undo.
Yes. There is a universal macOS installer (Apple Silicon and Intel) and a Windows installer. The same 5€ license covers both.
You can download DupSweep and scan for free. The trial allows 15 deletions. Paying unlocks unlimited cleanup. Scanning itself is not capped.
You get unlimited deletions. Features are the same. After payment you receive a license key on the site and by email; enter that key with your email in the app to unlock Pro.
Yes. Scan the OneDrive folder on your Mac or PC like any other folder. Matches are still SHA-256 verified. Files that are online-only (not downloaded) are placeholders — make them available offline, then scan. DupSweep does not sign in to your Microsoft account; it reads what is on disk.
Yes. Photo mode uses perceptual hashing (dHash + pHash), so near-duplicates — resized or slightly edited shots — can be grouped even when the files are not byte-identical.
DupSweep finds duplicate files, duplicate folders, and visually similar photos on your computer so you can free space without guessing. You choose what to remove — it never deletes anything on its own.
No. Name and size are only a first pass. A file duplicate is always confirmed with SHA-256. Photos can also match by how they look (perceptual hashing), not only as identical copies.
In-app Undo (⌘Z on Mac, Ctrl+Z on Windows) works while DupSweep is open. After you quit, files stay in Trash / Recycle Bin until you empty it, so you can still restore them there. Operation logs (JSON, HTML, PDF) record what was removed.
One-time payment for a lifetime license. There is no subscription.
Yes. DupSweep clusters folders whose contents match and can merge them in place, copy the merge into a new folder, or let you review items one by one.
You pick the folders to scan. USB and external drives work if they are mounted. Network shares usually work if they show up as folders on your computer; speed then depends on the network.
DupSweep reads what is on disk. Cloud-only placeholders (files that are not actually downloaded) can fail or trigger a download. Prefer scanning local copies, or exclude those cloud folders.
Scans and hashing run on your machine. File contents are not uploaded. Buying a license uses Stripe and email only for payment and the key. The optional contact form sends only what you type.
After a successful payment the key is shown on this site and emailed to you. In DupSweep, open the license / register dialog and enter the same email you paid with plus the key.
The key is tied to your email, not to a specific device. You can enter the same email and key on your own Mac and PC. It is a personal lifetime license, not a team or seat pack.
Install DupSweep again and enter the same email and key. If you lost the key, check the purchase email or use the contact form on this page.
It scans the folders you select. It does not specially lock the operating system, so avoid system directories. You can exclude folders (for example node_modules or .git) and file types before you clean.
A large scan uses CPU and disk while it hashes files. You can keep working; it may feel slower on spinning hard drives or huge photo libraries. Size and include/exclude filters shrink the job.

DupSweep includes a universal installer for Apple Silicon and Intel. On first launch, macOS may show a Gatekeeper warning because the installer is not notarized yet — open it from Finder if your system blocks the double-click. If you use iCloud Drive, note that cloud-only files are just placeholders on disk; make them available offline first, or exclude those folders from your scan.
Windows SmartScreen may warn on first launch because the installer is not signed yet — choose "More info" → Run anyway if you downloaded DupSweep from this site or GitHub Releases. For OneDrive users: add the OneDrive folder to your scan, but first make online-only files available offline. Avoid scanning C:\Windows and Program Files — DupSweep scans only the folders you choose, it does not specially lock the OS away.
